Sports Team of the Year Award 2006
you have to admit that the Sports Team of the Year Award was a nice rallying point for our team throughout the past AY (2005/06). as such, the news that we are not eligible for the award because we are not regarded as a team sport was an unexpected hit. only traditional team sports such as rugby and water polo, qualify for this award. while having to accept this reason as it is, one cannot help but wonder whether extending such team awards to 'individual' sports would, in fact, aid the development of individual sports. perhaps two awards, one titled 'Sports Team of the Year Award (Team Sports)' and the other 'Sports Team of the Year Award (Individual Sports)' would be more appropriate at promoting sports at the varsity level. at this level, overall champions at specific events are still of significance. without the entire team in an 'individual' sport, the title of overall champion would not be possible. SNOC awards team awards as 'Team of the Year (Event)' and 'Team of the Year (Team Sport)', which can be seen as an attempt to recognize 'individual' sports in team awards as well.on another note, what i wanted to share was that a friend commented he could see the 'team spirit and bonding' in our canoeing team, for both guys and girls. that's nice encouragement for you.
keep paddling, keep training...let us continue to be a team, let us continue striving for excellence, let us be there for one another, quoting peiying: as the nus canoeing family.

hahah but friends or family alike, we know we are a team and theres nothing less than a team u see in us..
i guess the initial feeling before we knew the reason was of shock and disbelief cos that was one of the things we were aiming for since last year's award ceremony.. and the high hopes that we held only left us more dejected, even more so after knowing we are not considered a team this year while last year we were..
peiying's i-already-tot-of-wad-pose-to-make, my lets-calculate-how-many-buffets-we-can-eat-with-the-money, jen's maybe-we-should-get-similar-dresses etc shows how much we thought the award was within us..
however, like wad i said in my blog, we are not going to let this defeat us.. be it biasedness from the src or unluckiness due to the people in the selection panel having a different view of team sports, we know we have done our best for this past AY and everyone of us especially the seniors deserve a pat on the back.. we can have our own appreciation lunches/dinners! :)
